Press Release – NDIS Changes

NDIS Minister Mark Butler is set to use a Press Club address today April 22 2026 to announce plans to curb the growth of the NDIS. It comes after weeks of speculation about possible changes to the NDIS.

“The changes to the NDIS are necessary for the sustainability of the system. Sustainability for those with the most profound disabilities, who the system was originally designed for.”

Two key changes

  1. Registration for all providers

Now is time, as the NDIS system has matured.

This is the key  to ensure the right safeguards are in place for participants.

(Originally, the system allowed for unregistered providers to allow for the workforce to build).

Registration establishes trust through mandatory compliance with NDIS quality standards, safeguards against fraud, and enables consistent, high-quality, safe, and audited services for participants

  1. Guiding people with less complex needs to state based funded programs,
    especially children with autism

The NDIS was not designed to cater for everyone who needs support. But importantly, key to ensure those moved off the system receive the support they need

It is essential these changes are made to ensure the system is here for those with more complex disabilities

“As a society, we should be supporting our most vulnerable citizens”
