The support to help you live more independently.

What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of NDIS funding that supports people to live as independently as possible.

SIL funding covers support with daily activities in and around the home, which may be provided 24/7, including overnight support. SIL can be provided in various types of housing, including SDA homes, private rentals, or family homes.

SIL refers to the supports provided in a home, (not the physical house itself).

  • SIL covers: Personal care, assistance with mealtimes, household tasks like chores and shopping and social activities
  • SIL does not cover: Rent, utility bills (electricity, internet, etc.)

Hearth SIL home and living options

As a registered SIL provider, Hearth can provide SIL supports in a range of housing options

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is the only physical housing funded by the NDIS.

It is designed for individuals with high support needs or extreme functional impairment.

As a registered SIL provider, Hearth can deliver SIL supports in SDA.

If you are looking to apply for SDA funding, you will need to do this together with your SIL application. This will enable you to receive a final Home and Living decision from the NDIS.

Learn more about SDA here: NDIS SDA Information  SDA Guidelines: NDIS SDA Guidelines

Hearth can provide SIL support in the home you own or rent. Hearth can also help you find housemates with NDIS SIL funding, with whom you can
share SIL supports.

If you live in your family home with parents or guardians and you have
allocated NDIS SIL funding, Hearth can provide SIL support

How do I know if I'm eligible for SIL?

To qualify, you need individualised 1:1 support (one support worker and one participant) for at least 8 hours per day + overnight support (NDIS Guidelines).

SIL funding approval can take 6–12 months, so we advise gathering all the necessary information and starting the process early. If you are eligible for SIL funding and require assistance with your application, our Occupational Therapists (OTs) can guide you through the process to ensure you receive the right support.
