Quite often, in discussions about the Hearth Home Solution, we are asked a question which highlights where the disability sector is at with housing.
“As parent or guardian, can I visit my son of daughters home?”
Our answer always is, ‘of course you can – it is, after all, your son or daughter’s home.’
In a Hearth Home, you certainly do not need an appointment. This is no different than if the housemates were living without a disability in a long-term rental with friends.
Hearth Homes are established to provide comfort, safety, community, and support for participants with Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding. These combine to nurture decision making and independence – including the freedom to have loved ones over.
This is how a Hearth Home setting provides participants much more than an institutional environment– including life in what can truly be described as a long-term home.
