Glenallen School & Hearth Support Services Collaborate to Develop a Work Experience Program for Students
We are super excited about commencing our new work experience program in collaboration with Glennallen School. The program successfully kicked off a little later than expected due to a long delay because of lockdown restrictions, however it was incredibly pleasing to be able to give the students the opportunity later in the year
The aim of the Hearth Support Services Work Experience Program is to provide students with the supervised opportunity to experience and actively participate in several different facets of Hearth Support Services administration including;
- Human Resources
- Compliance
- Recruitment
- Client services
- Finance
One of our Glenallen work experience students Leilani, really enjoyed participating in meetings and related it to “kind of like school” and was pleasantly surprised “that people can work from home as a normalized process in a workplace”. Amteshvar, who joined Leilani in the program “enjoyed most of it “particularly working in finance “creating and modifying spreadsheets”.
Our program assists and benefits students by giving them;
- A better understanding of the work environment and what employers expect of their employees.
- An opportunity to explore career options.
- Increased self-understanding, maturity, independence, and self-confidence.
- Increased motivation to continue study and/or undertake further training.
- An introduction to workplace recruitment practices.
- Opportunity to include the employer’s work experience evaluation in future job and course applications.
Having Glenallen students Leilani and Amteshvar in the Glen Iris office was highly valuable for the broader Hearth team and specifically the team that undertook the work experience program supervision.
We have learnt a great deal from the experience and look forward to continuing the growth and development of our program, engaging with Glenallen and other participating schools in 2022 and ongoing.
We believe that it was a rewarding program for all involved and summed up well by Amteshvar: “I have had a great time here having this experience and I believe this experience will help me with TAFE, as it is outside of school, and I experienced what it is like in the real world of work.”
