Ashwood Students Participate in Hearth Support Services Work Experience Program
Ashwood School students Olivia and Darcie recently participated in Hearth Support Services‘ student work experience program at our Glen Iris head office, and it was a pleasure to have them with us.
Our work experience program, which we developed in collaboration with Ashwood School, aims to provide students with supervised opportunities to actively participate in various facets of Hearth Support Services administration, including Human Resources, Information Technology (IT), Compliance, Recruitment, Staff Training, Client Operations, Client Intake, Finance, and Payroll.
Student Benefits
We’re thrilled about our program and the benefits it offers students, such as
- a better understanding of the work environment
- career exploration opportunities
- increased self-understanding, maturity, independence, and self-confidence
- greater motivation to continue their studies or undertake further training.
- an introduction to workplace recruitment practices
- the opportunity to include the employer’s work experience evaluation in future job and course applications.
Student Feedback
Olivia and Darcie both found the recruitment role to be the most interesting, with Olivia appreciating “the time taken to find suitable support workers” and Darcie enjoying “doing reference check calls and speaking with people on a daily basis.”
We also received positive feedback from both students, with Olivia expressing her desire to participate in the program again, and Darcie agreeing and praising the Milo provided during lunchtime.
Hearth Support Services Team Benefits
Having Olivia and Darcie in the Glen Iris office was highly valuable for our broader Hearth team and the team supervising the work experience program.
We learned a great deal from the experience and look forward to continuing to grow and develop our program, engaging with Ashwood, Glenallen, and other participating schools in 2023 and beyond. We’re confident that the program was a rewarding experience for all involved!
